Pete Bollinger Biography:
Sergeant
|
|
Pete Bollinger first became interested in law enforcement while serving in the United States Air Force, where he reached the rank of Sergeant. While in the military, he earned A.A. degrees. One in Industrial Security, from the College of the Air Force and a second in Criminal Justice, from Devils Lake College in North Dakota. After an honorable discharge, Mr. Bollinger continued his education, earning a B.S. Degree in Public Administration from the University of La Verne and a Masters Degree in Management from the University of Phoenix.
Mr. Bollinger has been a police officer with the Santa Ana Police Department since 1988 and has worked a variety of assignments throughout his career. First and foremost, he is proud that the majority of his work history was on patrol. He served in an undercover capacity, both purchasing and selling narcotics, and in vice programs with prostitutes, transvestites and others living outsideof the norms of society. Mr. Bollinger was later lucky enough to earn an assignment in Personnel, specifically in the Background Unit.
He has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant, supervised the Felony Case Filing Unit and now works patrol.

Steve Winston Biography: V.P. of Background Investigator Association of Southern California

Mr. Winston was hired in law enforcement in 1981 and has worked in several assignments. Most notably, as "Officer Steve" in the Bike Safety Program. He is still recognized by former students twenty years later. He has been working as a background investigator for nine years, hiring over 1,000 employees, including both police and firefighters. Mr. Winston has been invited by several universities to join their academic teams.
Mr. Winston embarked in a co-authoring endeavor with his mentor and good friend, Pete Bollinger. Together they have over four decades of collective experience in law enforcement, and have created the most comprehensive book on the realities of getting hired in public safety in existence. Those who have been the beneficiaries of their experience and candor have had their lives changed and found that the dreams that seemed impossible really can come true.
Mr. Winston is married and enjoys many leisure activities with his wife.

Jim Miyashiro Biography:
Chief Riverside Community College
|
|
Chief Jim Miyashiro began his law enforcement career 24 years ago. He had worked with State and Municipal police agencies. Chief Miyashiro holds an Associate of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business and Management. He Graduated from Golden West College Police Academy in 1984. Throughout his law enforcement career, he has had the opportunity to work several assignments including: accident investigator, crime scene investigator, K-9 handler, field training officer, patrol supervisor, police sergeant and operations commander. One of Chief Miyashiro's believes one of his biggest accomplishments was starting the Desert Hot Springs Police Department. Chief Miyashiro was with the Santa Ana School Police Department for the past eleven years serving as their Chief and recently took the position of Chief with The Riverside Community College District.
In addition to his law enforcement career, he has served as a consultant to FCMAT (Fiscal Crisis and Management Assistance Team) for the State of California. He has also owned and operated several successful businesses during the past twenty years. He is a California licensed real estate broker and commercial licensed pilot.

Michael R. Maiocco Biography:
CSI Santa Ana
|
|
Michael Maiocco has worked for a local law enforcement agency in Orange County for over 17 years. During this time he has investigated and reconstructed hundreds of crime scenes including homicides, sexual assaults, fatal traffic collisions, burglaries, and robberies. Mr. Maiocco also processes numerous pieces of evidence in the crime lab using chemicals and powders and operates sophisticated equipment on a daily basis. He has testified in court as an expert witness in crime scene investigation in the prosecution of numerous high profile murder, narcotics, and gang cases. He is an operator of the Integrated Ballistics Identification System for firearms and ammunition.
Mr Maiocco was awarded the Police Service Medal of Valor for actions during an emergency situation and has also received the Non-sworn Employee of the Year Award several years in a row. He is a member of the California State Division IAI and has been a member of the International Association for Identification for several years.
Graduating Magna Cum Laude from Vanguard University, Mr. Maiocco earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Management and is in the process of pursuing his Master's Degree in Criminal Justice. He has also completed several forensic related courses through the Orange County Sheriff's Department, Sacramento County Sheriff's Department, Fullerton College, and the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms. Mr. Maiocco teaches at the collegiate level and is the author of "Everything You Need To Know About CSI".

William Nimmo:
Commander.
|
|
William Nimmo has been employed by a police agency in Orange County for approximately 21 years. William received his basic police training at the Orange County Sheriff’s Academy in 1987.
During Commander Nimmo’s 21 years of police service, he has worked his way through the police ranks holding positions as Detective, Police Sergeant, Internal Affairs Inspector, Watch Commander, and District Commander. Commander Nimmo is currently in charge of a Policing District where he is responsible for the delivery of police services for one quarter of a local Orange County city with a population of approximately 400,000 residents. Commander Nimmo also serves as Chairman of the department’s Shooting Review Board, which investigates officer-involved shootings and other major incidents.
Commander Nimmo holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Liberal Arts from Regents University of New York. He is a graduate of the Los Angeles Police Department West Point Leadership Program and the Josephson Institute of Ethics.
William is certified as a Qualified Security Manager through State of California Bureau of Security and Investigations Services. He has owned and managed several private security companies for the past 15 years.

Mark Waldo started his career in Forensics with the Garden Grove Police Dept. in 1993, later transferring to the Santa Ana Police Dept. in 1995 and has been with S.A.P.D. ever since. Working in the Forensics Services Section/CSI Unit, Mr. Waldo has investigated hundreds of crime scenes a majority of them being gang related shootings and homicides. Mr. Waldo also works in the Crime Lab processing sensitive articles of evidence using the latest techniques and equipment. He has testified in the Superior and Juvenile Courts, as an expert witness in crime scene investigation for numerous of homicide and gang cases. Mr. Waldo is crossed trained as a Senior IBIS Technician for the Forensic Firearms Unit.
In 2000 Mr. Waldo was the first Crime Scene Investigator to be selected to work in a Multi-Agency Clandestine Sting Operation, operating a store front to purchase stolen property. During this year long undercover operation, he set up and operated hidden cameras and microphones, recording and photographing the suspects, later identifying them by mug shots and processing the stolen property for latent fingerprints. Due to his expertise the operation was a success in the arrest of 35 individuals, the recovery of 75 stolen vehicles and numerous pieces of stolen property.
With a background in EMS, in 1997 Mr. Waldo began lecturing at colleges and hospitals to EMT's, Paramedics, RN's and Doctors on preserving the evidence at a crime scene. Since then he has lectured at all orange county colleges and all three Regional Occupational Programs. He has also been a guest speaker at Westwood College and several EMS Conferences. Mr. Waldo is writing a book "Preserving the Crime Scene, a Guide for First Responders".
Mr. Waldo is very active in the professional forensic community; he holds memberships in good standing with the California Sate Coroners Association (CSCA), International Association for Identification (IAI), California State Division International Association for Identification (CSDIAI) and Southern California Association of Fingerprint Officer's (SCAFO). He is currently a Director for SCAFO and a Director of the South for CSDIAI.
